Medium Build is the musical project of Nick Carpenter, a nomadic artist whose sound reflects his life of movement and transformation. Raised in a middle-class, church-going family in Georgia, and educated in Tennessee, Carpenter found his community in Alaska before his rising career began pulling him to Nashville. These diverse experiences shape his music—a kaleidoscope of sounds and moods.

Medium Build began as a name Carpenter attached to four-track recordings a decade ago. Since then, his discography has grown to include Falling Apart (2016), softboy (2018), roughboy (2018), Wild (2019) and Country (2024), which was recorded on Nashville’s Music Row with creative collaborator Jake LiBassi (Laiko). His latest album, This Is Life, arrived in early 2025.

Known for songs “drenched in authenticity” and performances that mix concert, testimony and stand-up comedy, fan favorites include “Crying Over You,” “Yoke” (feat. Julien Baker), “Never Learned To Dance,” “This Is Life,” “Triple Marathon” and “Be Your Boy.”

In 2023, Medium Build signed with slowplay / Island Records, toured with Lewis Capaldi, and made his Billboard debut with the “Friend for Life” collaboration alongside X Ambassadors. He is currently touring across the U.S., performing at venues like Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and Coachella, and sharing the stage with Tyler Childers, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and more.
