All skill levels and modes of transportation welcome! This is a FREE community oriented rescue-focused clinic for winter backcountry travelers.
What to expect:
– Practice companion rescue (bring your gear, limited supply of loaner gear will be available).
– Learn the basics if you have never done rescue. Refine skills if you are intermediate-advanced.
– Advanced clinics (multiple burials, deep burial considerations) available on request.
– Review warning signs of an unstable snowpack.
– Learn about opportunities and resources available from local avalanche organizations, including HPAC, AK Safe Riders, Alaska Avalanche School, CNFAIC, AMRG, and Anchorage Nordic Ski Patrol, AMDS, and Backcountry Bike & Ski
– Farm Loop Coffee and donuts!
What to bring:
– Dress in layers, as you would for a ski tour or winter hike
– Bring a backpack with extra layers, water, snacks, hand/toe warmers if you use them, and your beacon, probe, and shovel if you own them
– Skis/splitboard/snowshoes or winter boots/gaiters if you don’t yet own winter travel gear
– Your ASP annual parking pass or payment for a daily parking pass
– A parent/guardian to sign your waiver if you are under 18
